Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Robert Walser was confined to a mental hospital in Herisau, Switherland from 1933 until his death in 1956. From 1936 onward, the Zurich critic, editor, and art patron Carl Seelig visited the poet two or three times a year, to go on a day’s walk. Seelig wants information about Walser’s work, Walser wants to walk as fast as possible, and to eat, much and often.
